3.1.7. A gear belt
THE GENERAL DATA

The prevention

For a correct tension of a gear belt use of the special electronic tool (SEEM C105.5) is necessary. If the belt tension is made without this tool it is not necessary to make trips on the big distances and to maintain the engine on high turns. At the first possibility adjust a belt tension at station Peugeot.


The gear belt puts in action a cam-shaft and the pump of system of cooling and is put in action by a pulley located on the forward end коленвала. In case of belt rupture at engine work possibly impact of pistons with valves that leads to serious damage of the engine.

Replacement of a gear belt should be made after certain run or earlier if on it oil has got or there is its non-uniform deterioration.

If the gear belt acts in film, it is necessary to check up a condition of the pump of system of cooling and its tightness.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
Models of the engine in volume of 1.6 litres
1. Disconnect the negative plug from the accumulator.
2. Lift a forward part of the car and remove the right forward wheel. Unscrew a bolt of fastening of a mudguard.
3. Remove auxiliary приводной a belt. Unscrew a bolt and remove the tension mechanism приводного a belt.
4. Unscrew a bolt and remove the top casing of a gear belt.
5. Turn коленвал before combination of adjusting apertures in pulleys of distributive and cranked shaft and fix them in this position by cores.
6. Remove a pulley auxiliary приводного a belt from a cranked shaft.
7. Remove the central and bottom casings of a gear belt.
8. Ослабьте a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension of a gear belt. Using the corresponding key of square section established in an aperture in a nave of a pulley, turn a pulley clockwise and repeatedly tighten a fastening bolt.
9. If the gear belt of a drive is repeatedly used, a paint or a chalk note a direction of its rotation. Remove a belt from pulleys.
The prevention

After belt removal rotation коленвала is not supposed.


10. Check up a gear belt on presence of non-uniform deterioration, stratification or pollution by oil. Special attention turn on a condition at the basis of teeths of a belt. If the engine is exposed to major repairs, after run of a belt more, than 60000 km, replace a belt irrespective of its condition. If on a belt oil traces are found out, it is necessary to find a source of leak of oil and to eliminate it.
Models of the engine in volume of 1.8 and 2.0 litres
11. Disconnect the negative plug from the accumulator.
12. Turning коленвал, combine adjusting apertures on pulleys of a cam-shaft and коленвала and fix pulleys cores.
13. Remove the top external and lower casings of a gear belt.
14. For an easy approach to a gear belt, if necessary, disconnect electric sockets and remove a plait of wires from clips and supports. At switching-off of sockets necessarily mark them for correct installation on a former place.
15. Support the engine a jack and remove the right support of the engine.
16. Ослабьте a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension of a back branch of a gear belt of a drive also turn a pulley clockwise, using the corresponding key of square section established in a nave of a pulley. Then repeatedly tighten a fastening bolt.
17. Check up that cores of fixing of pulleys of camshafts are on a place, then remove and check up a condition of a gear belt.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
Models of the engine in volume of 1.6 litres
1. Check up and clear pulleys of a drive of a gear belt. Also check up a condition and freedom of rotation of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension.
2. Check up presence of cores of fixing of a cam-shaft. Temporarily establish a pulley on коленвал and insert into it an installation core to check up position коленвала.
3. Remove a pulley with коленвала. Establish a gear belt, observing a direction of its rotation. At belt installation provide the maximum tension of a forward branch of a belt, belt sagging should be on a back branch. Check up that teeths of a gear belt were correctly established on pulleys.
4. Temporarily establish a pulley auxiliary приводного a belt and moderately tighten a fastening bolt. Then establish a fixing core.
The prevention

The tension of a gear belt is made at the removed casing.


5. Ослабьте a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension. Using a key of square section, turn a pulley counter-clockwise to a belt tension.
6. In the presence of the special measuring equipment establish it on a forward branch of a gear belt and establish the initial tension of a belt equal 30±2 of unit.
7. Remove adjusting cores and turn коленвал on two complete revolutions clockwise. Repeatedly establish fixing cores. If cores were inserted easily, the drive mechanism timing means is established correctly. Remove blocking cores.
8. If cores of fixing of pulleys are not established in an aperture, it is necessary to remove a belt and to make combination of adjusting apertures.
9. If the belt tension is made without the special tool, to check up a belt tension it is possible, having made moderate effort of the big forefinger in the middle of a forward branch of a belt and having turned a belt on 90 °. If the belt tension is made without this tool it is not necessary to make trips on the big distances and to maintain the engine on high turns. At the first possibility adjust a belt tension at station Peugeot.
10. At use of special measuring tools turn коленвал on two turns, establish a blocking core коленвала and check up a tension of a forward branch of a belt which should make 44±2 units.
11. After an exact tension of a belt remove a core of blocking of a cam-shaft, then remove a pulley auxiliary приводного a belt with коленвала and establish casings.
12. Establish a pulley of an auxiliary belt on коленвал, grease carvings of a bolt with means against unscrewing and screw up a bolt of fastening of a pulley.
13. Establish the mechanism of a tension auxiliary приводного a belt and pull auxiliary приводной a belt.
14. Establish a mudguard and a forward right wheel. Lower the car.
15. Connect the negative plug to the accumulator.
Models of the engine in volume of 1.8 and 2.0 litres
16. Check up and clear pulleys of a drive of a gear belt. Also check up a condition and freedom of rotation of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension.
17. Check up that the adjusting core is in a cam-shaft pulley. Temporarily establish a pulley коленвала and insert into it blocking core that guarantees correctness of installation коленвала.
18. Remove a pulley коленвала. Establish a gear belt on a pulley коленвала, observing a direction of its rotation.
19. Establish the bottom casing of a belt and a pulley of an auxiliary belt on коленвал.
20. Establish a blocking core in a pulley коленвала.
21. Without deleting blocking cores, ослабьте six bolts of fastening of pulleys of camshafts. Check up, that both pulleys were freely turned in small limits.
22. Tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys of cam-shafts. Then turn away them on 60 ° everyone.
23. Turn each pulley clockwise and tighten additional bolts.
24. Pull a forward branch of a gear belt from a pulley коленвала, through a single pulley and on a pulley of a cam-shaft operating inlet valves.
25. Pulling a forward branch of a belt, establish it on a pulley of the cam-shaft operating final valves.
26. Pulling a belt, establish it on a back pulley of the mechanism of a tension and round a pulley of the pump of system of cooling.
27. Make a tension of a gear belt.
28. In the presence of the special measuring equipment, establish it on a forward branch of a gear belt. Turning a pulley of the mechanism of a tension counter-clockwise, establish the tension of a belt equal to 45 units, and tighten a bolt of fastening of the mechanism of a tension.
29. Unscrew bolts of fastening from pulleys of cam-shafts and check up that apertures under bolts in pulleys are not in extreme position in relation to fastening bolts. If all is satisfactory, unscrew two additional bolts and tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys.
30. Remove adjusting cores, turn коленвал clockwise on two complete revolutions and establish an installation core in a pulley коленвала. Ослабьте six bolts of fastening of cam-shafts, repeatedly tighten them and unscrew on 60 °.
31. Establish adjusting cores in pulleys of cam-shafts. Then ослабьте a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension. Establish the measuring equipment on a forward branch of a belt and turn a pulley of the mechanism of a tension before installation of a preliminary tension of the belt equal to 26 units. Tighten a bolt of fastening of the mechanism of a tension.
32. Repeatedly tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys of cam-shafts demanded effort.
33. Remove blocking cores, turn коленвал clockwise on two complete revolutions and establish blocking core in a pulley коленвала.
34. Ослабьте six bolts of fastening of cam-shafts, repeatedly tighten them and unscrew on 60 °.
35. Establish adjusting cores in pulleys of cam-shafts. Then ослабьте a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension. Establish the measuring equipment on a forward branch of a belt and turn a pulley of the mechanism of a tension before installation of a final tension of the belt equal of 32-40 units. Tighten a bolt of fastening of the mechanism of a tension.
36. Repeatedly tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys of cam-shafts demanded effort.
37. If the belt tension is made without the special measuring equipment, turn a pulley of the mechanism of a tension of a belt counter-clockwise before elimination of sagging of a back branch of a belt and, in this position, tighten a bolt of fastening of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension.
38. Unscrew bolts of fastening from pulleys of cam-shafts and check up that apertures under bolts in pulleys are not in extreme position in relation to fastening bolts. If all is satisfactory, unscrew two additional bolts and tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys.
39. Remove adjusting cores, turn коленвал clockwise on two complete revolutions and establish an installation core in a pulley коленвала.
40. Ослабьте six bolts of fastening of cam-shafts, repeatedly tighten them and unscrew on 60 °.
41. Establish adjusting cores in pulleys of cam-shafts. Turn a pulley of the mechanism of a tension that, putting moderate effort, it was possible to turn a belt on 45 ° in an average part between pulleys of the cam-shaft operating inlet valves and a single pulley and tighten a bolt of fastening of the mechanism of a tension.
42. Repeatedly tighten six bolts of fastening of pulleys of cam-shafts demanded effort.
43. Establish casings of a gear belt and connect the negative plug to the accumulator.
