5.2. Fuel system of diesel engines
THE GENERAL DATA

Two systems of injection of diesel fuel are used. Engines in volume of 1.9 litres are equipped by semielectronic system Bosch AS3, and engines of 2.1 litres are equipped by a full control system of engine Lucas EPIC (the electronic programmed control of injection).

The system of injection Bosch provides electronic control of the fuel pump of a high pressure and a choice of time of injection, and also operates action of system of repeated burning of the fulfilled gases (EGR) and candles накаливания.

The system copes the electronic control device (ECU) which receives signals from the gauges supervising loading of the engine, frequency of rotation of the engine, work of atomizers and temperature of a cooling liquid. The block of management ECU through a cable of an accelerator and a vacuum diaphragm defines the moment of time of injection of the fuel pump and work of electromagnetic valve EGR.

The system of injection Lucas EPIC provides the programmed electronic control of the fuel pump of a high pressure and electronic control of system of repeated burning of the fulfilled gases through the electronic control block (ECU).

The system copes control device ECU from gauges of position of a pedal of an accelerator, depression in an inlet collector, engine and position turns коленвала, temperature of a cooling liquid and temperature of soaked up air. Valve EGR action also copes ECU in a combination to the electromagnetic valve.

Unique feature of this system – management of an accelerator. Instead of a cable of the accelerator connected to the pump of a high pressure, the accelerator pedal is connected with the gauge of position of a pedal. This gauge sends signals of position of pedal ECU which, in turn operates the fuel pump of a high pressure by means of electronics.

The fuel system includes:

 – The fuel tank established in a back part of the car;
 – The fuel filter with a separator;
 – The fuel pump of a high pressure regulated by means of electronics;
 – Atomizers;
 – Connecting components.

Before fuel passage through the filter fuel heats up the cooling liquid passing through the basis of the fuel filter. Турбонагнетатель and a refrigerator are established on all models.

Fuel from a fuel tank to the fuel pump of a high pressure moves the centrifugal pump located in the fuel pump of a high pressure. In front of the fuel pump the fuel filter where clearing of fuel of alien particles and water is made is established. Surpluses of fuel grease the fuel pump and on the pipeline come back in a fuel tank.

The fuel pump of a high pressure rotates with a speed twice less, than коленвал, and is put in action by a gear belt from коленвала.

The quantity of submitted fuel copes a centrifugal regulator which reacts to position of a pedal of management by giving of fuel and frequency of rotation of the engine. The regulator is connected with the valve of measurement which increases or reduces quantity of the fuel submitted for each cycle of work of the pump.

The moment of injection of fuel is defined by the pump. At work of the engine the moment of injection of fuel changes automatically in the pump from system ECU.

Four fuel atomizers spray fuel in the vortical chambers located in a head of the block of cylinders. Atomizers откалиброваны in such a manner that open and closed at strictly certain pressure that provides effective and full combustion of fuel. Each needle of an injector is greased with fuel which collects in space about a spring, and then arrives to a returnable hose.

Start of the cold engine is facilitated at the expense of presence of candles накаливания, established in each vortical chamber. On system Bosch speed of idling of the cold engine increases at the expense of the vacuum influencing through a diaphragm on a cable of an accelerator. On system Lucas the idling mode is automatically regulated by the fuel pump. On both systems management is made by block ECU.

The electromagnetic valve of a stop of the engine blocks fuel giving to a rotor of the fuel pump at ignition deenergizing. On the fuel pump of high pressure Bosch also there is a lever of a stop of the engine.

The fuel pump at good service can work before repair more than the engine. A principal cause of damage of the fuel pump and atomizers – a dirt or water in fuel.

Service of the fuel pump and atomizers are very difficult. Therefore it is necessary for making at station Peugeot.

At work on system of injection Lucas it is necessary to observe additional safety measures:

 – Always disconnect the negative plug of the accumulator before switching-off of any of sockets of fuel system;
 – At installation of the accumulator do not mix a pole;
 – Do not subject system components (especially ECU) to blows;
 – Do not open block ECU;
 – Exclude moisture hit in components of system of electronic control (at an engine sink protect system from water hit).
